Description
Think Tank is back with a special “Imagine Charleston” edition featuring John Robert Smith, President and CEO of Reconnecting America and former mayor of Meridian, MS. “Imagine Charleston” is the city’s new creative visioning and planning process that seeks unprecedented input from Charlestonians to develop new official plans for the city’s future.
With an energetic blend of insight, Smith will discuss his knowledge of development projects and improving our downtown area.
Smith served four terms as mayor of Meridian, MS and currently serves as the President and CEO of Reconnecting America, a national non-profit transit research and advocacy think tank. While in office, Mayor Smith oversaw a number of development projects to boost investment in Meridian’s downtown and several declining inner-city neighborhoods, including the redevelopment of the historic Union Station, the construction of a new performing arts center and the development of a HOPE VI mixed-income housing project. He is co-chairman of Transportation for America and former co-chairman of the National Forum on the Future of Passenger Rail of the National League of Cities and the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
The event is free to attend, but RSVP is required.
