MAMC offers free metrology courses in So. Charleston, Huntington

Marshall Advanced Manufacturing Center (MAMC) is expanding free manufacturing training opportunities through America’s Cutting Edge (ACE) with a series of one-day metrology courses.

Metrology is the science of measurement and its application. In manufacturing, metrology plays a critical role in maintaining equipment precision and ensuring product quality.

Individuals who complete an ACE Metrology camp in either Huntington or South Charleston will learn to:

• Understand units of measurement
• Recognize decimal equivalence between metric and standard measurements
• Develop an understanding of precision measurement and its applications in manufacturing
• Identify the differences between precision measurement tools, including calipers, micrometers and height gauges
• Properly select and use precision tools to measure part features
• Gain a beginner-level understanding of quality concepts such as thermal expansion, Six Sigma and measurement uncertainty

ACE Metrology camps are open to individuals 16 and older. No experience is required.

The Huntington camps will run June 11, June 18 and June 25. South Charleston camps are scheduled June 9, June 16 and June 23. All sessions run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Registration for the in-person camps is required at www.mfg.marshall.edu/metrology.

“These ACE camps are a great way to build technical skills, explore manufacturing careers or simply learn something new,” said MAMC Director of Training David Lucas. “Metrology touches every aspect of manufacturing, making our camps an excellent starting point for anyone interested in the industry.”

ACE is a U.S. Department of Defense-funded initiative designed to strengthen American manufacturing by introducing individuals to machining and machine tool trades. MAMC partners with The Composites Institute to provide free in-person machining and metrology camps throughout West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky.
