The Salvation Army Charleston Area Command
- NonProfit Community Organizations / Foundations
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
Serving Kanawha, Putnam, Roane, Lincoln, Mingo, Clay and Logan Counties, the Social Services program assists low income individuals with food, clothing, hygiene, emergency medication and utility terminations.
The Pathway of Hope program works with motivated families to propel them away from chronic, intergenerational poverty and toward a path of self-sufficiency.
The Boys and Girls Club, Charleston and St. Albans, helps to bridge the gap for at-risk youth between school and home. We provide a welcome, positive environment in which kids and teens have fun, participate in life-changing programs and build supportive relationships with peers and adults. We hope to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
Family Thrift Stores provide an affordable alternative for families to purchase clothing & household items. Community members are invited to donate items that can be placed in the stores for purchase or to be given as needed to fill needs of social service clients.
Other areas of service include Disaster Services, Warming Centers, Christmas Food & Toys Assistance. Volunteer opportunities are available to any group or individual through each of our programs.
