The Purple Onion is a happening place! Every single day our specialty shop is filled with customers -- and no wonder. There are literally hundreds and hundreds of shopping options to be had. You can also grab a healthy lunch (salads, homemade soups, beverages), shop for dinner and make up a gift or fruit basket. We ship anywhere in the US!

The breadth of inventory will astound you -- local produce in season, gourmet foods (Paula Dean & Stonewall Kitchens to name two), hard to find specialty items, organic products, Amish bulk and produce items, imported and domestic olive oils and vinegars. Wow! Imagine the gift basket or meal one could assemble from any combination of those items.

We Know Our Stuff

The staff at The Purple Onion is here to serve you. Most of the time Allan Hathaway (that's me - fearless leader in a ball cap) is available and helping customers, but Felicia, my wife, does a lot of behind the scenes work. I have always worked in the food industry in one job or another and we opened The Purple Onion 2003.

More Than Purple Onions

We also have the seasonal holiday tree business, Jameson Farms, named after our son, where we grow Christmas trees. Additionally, Jameson Farms carries wreaths and other decor. It opens for the holiday season, outside in Potter Pavilion. Wait, there's more. Our team runs a second shop at Capitol Market, WV Marketplace. It's located at the opposite end of the Market featuring simply the best of West Virginia.
