Event Description:

Generation Charleston will host its monthly Gain Prosper Succeed (GPS) breakfast with Jens Kiel of Made in Germany at 8 a.m. Tuesday, April 11 at the Charleston Area Alliance. The event is limited to the first 15 Generation Charleston members who register.

Gain, Prosper, Succeed (GPS) is a breakfast series with selected community leaders and a small number of Generation Charleston members. This small group format allows members to have an intimate discussion with the selected guest. Guests provide tips and advice on leadership and a fresh perspective on timely topics. Generation Charleston members gain insight on skill development as an up-and-coming business professional and build connections with business leaders in the Kanawha Valley.

In this dialogue-focused presentation, Kiel will talk about opportunities, risks, and pitfalls of digital communication. Looking back on a three-decade-spanning career in marketing and advertising, he will elaborate how emerging professionals can stay relevant and original across platforms, the singularization of our identity, and the consequences we have to face for better or worse. More an entertaining ropewalk than an Orwellian vision of a connected world, we’ll find out what, if, and how much of ourselves exists and will keep existing in the digital realm, and how this can impact one’s career.

Kiel is the owner of Made in Germany, a Charleston-based marketing and creative strategy consultancy. A German native and Mountaineer by marriage, he is a consummate professional with significant national and international experience in advertising and marketing, branding and social media. His business is helping professional, technical and scientific service companies to communicate to their audience with impact.

Kiel has been presenting his workshops on Digital Communication Etiquette nationwide to the Veterans Health Administration, and regional at the WV Chamber's "ResourceU", Toyota Motor Works, the Small Business Administration's District Office, and several Create WV conferences. His ongoing national webinar series is presented by the SBA and SCORE. In 2016, Kiel was awarded the SBA’s West Virginia Small Business Champion of the Year.
