Description
Join Dr. Cicero M. Fain III, historian, author, and Assistant Provost for Access and Opportunity at Marshall University, for an engaging lecture exploring the history and experiences of Black communities in Appalachia.
Dr. Fain earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in History from The Ohio State University and is the author of the award-winning Black Huntington: An Appalachian Story. He is also co-editor of Black Appalachia: Race, Place, and Identity, and a recipient of the 2026 Thomas D. Clark Foundation Medallion Award.
The evening will explore the people, places, and forces that shaped Black life in the region and broaden our understanding of Appalachia’s history. A light reception will follow, and copies of the book will be available for purchase on site through Taylor Books.
