The Charleston Area Alliance has released its Community Art Project, a 9 x 7’ painting, commissioned by Jack O’Hearn.

Throughout the summer at the Alliance’s Downtown Streetfest block parties, O’Hearn engaged community members to create a drawing based on their meaning of community. More than 150 individuals contributed pictures illustrating their perspective of the Kanawha Valley.

O’Hearn used the drawings to create the painting, rearranging the subjects and applying color at his discretion. The painting will be on display throughout city and at Charleston Area Alliance special events.

The Charleston Community Art Project was funded by McDonald’s of the Tri-State Community Grants Program, the West Virginia Governor’s Community Participation Grant Program and the America’s Best Communities Award.
